Have you ever overheard someone speaking poorly about you?
If you’ve lived the pain of that moment in time, I want to say that I’m so sorry. I know that it hurts, but I also want you to know that you’re not alone friend. I can say from personal experience that having negative things spoken over you or about you hurts deeply and quite frankly, it sucks to say the least. But you know what’s worse and more damaging than overhearing someone else speak negatively about you? You speaking negatively about yourself – or allowing yourself to continue to think those negative thoughts about yourself. Yeah, you know the ones I’m talking about… the voice that says that you’ll never be happy when something goes wrong for the 113th time that week. Or the voice that says that you’ll always be broke, when you’ve overdrawn your account yet again just to put gas in your tank. I’m here to tell you that if you let your inner critic win, you’ll live a miserable and defeated life that you find yourself wanting to escape from instead of fully enjoy.
I’m also here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be this way. You can stop the cycle and start to change the way you feel about your situations, about yourself, and your life. But it’s going to cost you something… it’ll cost you your old mindset.
Henry Ford coined a famous phrase that holds so much weight to me.
He said something along the lines of, “if you think you can or if you think can’t, you’re right”.
