While blogs have been around now for a little over 20 years, they have absolutely exploded over the last couple of years.
In hindsight, the decision to start a blog was the easy part. Navigating the waters of keeping it alive and growing it have been the best challenge of this journey to date. It’s changed my life in ways that you probably wouldn’t imagine. At this moment, I don’t make money off of my blog. Everything you see here is an extension of my desire to help you. So, here’s 5 ways that blogging has changed my life… and my wardrobe (because we all know how much I love fashion!)
I. Reminds me to put others first
Although I have my “own” corner of the internet in the form of a blog, everything I create to put on this site is to help others. That’s my goal, my mission and what I spend time on when I’m creating new things! Blogging is a form of serving others that I didn’t fully realize until I dove in and put in the work!
II. Strengthening my discipline
I’d say that many people don’t understand the discipline that is involved when someone maintains a blog. Posting consistently on the blog (and social media to connect with others + promote your blog) take insane amounts of discipline because while you may love what you blog about, there are just some days that you don’t feel like doing the work involved. You might be having a bad day, tired, sad, etc. For me, I know that any negativity that tries to cloud my day has a way of trying to affect my blogging efforts. And in those moments, instead of giving in to my emotions I’ve learned to lean on discipline to complete the things that I said that I was going to complete. It’s not always easy, but I’m loving the person that I’m becoming in the process.
III. Helping me hone new skills
There are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes of not only starting a blog, but keeping one alive and growing it! Learning the technical skills that come with creating a website, figuring out how to build an engaged email list, SEO, and more has been an eye opening experience! I’ve also picked up some graphic design skills on my journey that make my appreciation for people who are very skilled in their crafts so much greater! I used to be scared of all things tech and now I love it! All I can say is hip hip hooray for growth!
IV. Opens up new opportunities to meet people
Life isn’t just made up of what you know, but it’s largely made up by who you know. I say all the time that we weren’t created to live life like an island in seclusion from others. We as humans were built for relationship. Our circle of influence has the ability to help propel us towards our dreams or it can hold us back from what we want to accomplish in life. Some people even go as far to say that our net worth is directly tied to our network. And blogging has given me the opportunity to meet so many new amazing people! I’ve been able to connect with individuals from around the globe with the power of social media and through this site all because I took a chance on myself and created this blog! And for that, I’ll be forever grateful!
V. I’ve become more adventurous in trying new things/styles than before
I can be somewhat reserved at times. I’ve always had a love for fashion and styling pieces of clothes. In fact, when I was younger, you could find me in my room with about 30 clothes out of my closet as I rummaged through them trying on different outfits while creating a mini fashion show for… well, myself. I still chuckle to myself a bit to this day when I think about those moments. But after that fashion show that I held for myself, I would typically pick the “safest” outfit I could find which consisted of jeans and what I thought was a cute top and some sort of pointed toe shoe. Now while I still love all of those pieces, blogging has caused me to be more adventurous in trying out new styles, colors, and mixing up different pieces to create new styles that I absolutely adore but never knew before! I for one can say that I really don’t know if I’ll actually like something unless I give it a try and blogging has created that opportunity for me! From fedoras to midi pleated skirts with booties and more, I’m in love with the changes that blogging has helped me undergo!
This is just a short list of a few ways blogging has changed my life. If you’re a blogger, I’d love to hear if blogging has changed yours and how! If you’re not a blogger, I’d love to hear your thoughts on how blogging has changed mine!
